Raclette and Fondue

Two popular dishes here in Switzerland are raclette and fondue. With raclette, you must buy a special grill, melt raclette cheese, and grill meat, and then you pour this over potatoes.

For fondue, they use special fondue cheese and dip bits of bread, olives, and onions into the cheese and eat this as a meal. This has been a custom in Switzerland for a very long time, and used to be done on an open flame.

I decided to go out and purchase a fondue set and will also get a raclette grill soon. Here is a great website that talks about the history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fondue
